Join Ayelet Zohar for a look at the epic artwork The Great Ryūkyū Photographic Scroll (2010-2023) created by one of Okinawa’s leading photographers, Ishikawa Mao. Zohar presents the ten large scrolls, which portray different episodes from Okinawa’s history, as a form of activism that engages multiple community voices. At the same time, she analyzes the scroll format itself as a distinct approach to photographic materiality, time, and representation.
